Maximus or PeterMD: two men's hormone programs, side by side

Both sell testosterone and enclomiphene online. They differ on forms, how prepaid plans work, how you pay for labs and how you cancel.

The short answer

Both prescribe testosterone and enclomiphene online after labs. Maximus offers injection, cream and oral testosterone, with lower monthly prices on prepaid plans that can't be ended early. PeterMD prices injectable testosterone, bills its first two months together, and sells lab panels separately. Pick Maximus for a non-injection form; pick PeterMD for its own lab panels and tracking app.

Key takeaways

  • Both prescribe testosterone and enclomiphene online, and both build TRT around lab results.
  • Maximus prices testosterone as an injection, oral capsule or cream. PeterMD prices injections, and lists an oral option without a price on the pages read.
  • Both drop the monthly rate on longer prepaid plans. Maximus's prepaid plans can't be ended early.
  • Maximus requires labs at the start and at one and three months, at extra cost unless you bring your own. PeterMD sells its blood panels separately.
  • Neither offers refunds once medication is on its way, so pick your plan length carefully.

Here's the short version. Maximus and PeterMD sell close to the same men's hormone menu: testosterone, enclomiphene and sermorelin. The differences are in forms, plan lengths, labs and canceling. Everything below comes from each company's own pages.

How signup and labs work at each

Both start with an online assessment and lean on lab results before prescribing testosterone. The order of steps differs.

At Maximus, you complete an online assessment and a clinician from its affiliated practices reviews your history and baseline labs. The prescription goes straight to a partner pharmacy. After that, a monthly refill questionnaire checks in, with follow-up labs at one and three months for testosterone [1].

At PeterMD, you pick a product or take an assessment, then consult a US-based provider online or in person. Testosterone plans are built from your lab results, and PeterMD sells its own blood panels. It also has an app for tracking hormone results and body measurements [2].

Testosterone prices by form and plan

On a month-to-month injection plan, PeterMD charges not published. Both cut the monthly rate on longer prepaid plans. That's where the real comparison sits.

Also offered by (no standing monthly price published): Maximus, PeterMD.

The catch on long plans: you pay up front. At Maximus, a committed plan runs to its end, with no early termination or partial refund [1]. At PeterMD, nothing is refunded once medication arrives [2]. Start on the shortest plan until you know the treatment suits you. Choosing between forms? See testosterone injections or cream.

What your first charge covers

Your first payment looks different at each program, even on a month-to-month plan. At PeterMD, the month-to-month injection plan bills the first two months together, then monthly after that [2]. So your first charge is about double the monthly rate.

At Maximus, the month-to-month plan bills one month at a time, but testosterone needs baseline labs first. Unless you send your own, the kit or Quest draw is a separate charge, and two more rounds follow in the first three months [1]. Add those up before you compare. A quick way to do it: ask each program for the total you'd pay over your first 90 days, labs included, and get it in writing.

Enclomiphene at each

Both sell enclomiphene as a compounded oral prescription. Maximus charges less a month on its 3-month and 12-month plans than month to month [1]. PeterMD bills in two-month blocks [2].

Enclomiphene isn't FDA-approved; pharmacies compound it while FDA evaluates it, and FDA's advisers voted 4 to 8 against listing it in 2022. How it stacks up against testosterone is in enclomiphene or TRT.

Labs and what they cost

Labs can add a real amount to your first three months at either program. Plan for them before you compare drug prices.

  • Maximus requires labs for testosterone and enclomiphene at the start, then at one and three months. You can use its at-home kit or a Quest draw, both at extra cost, or send your own recent labs for free. For enclomiphene it checks LH, FSH and testosterone [1].
  • PeterMD builds plans from your lab results and sells blood panels separately, in several tiers. Its pages don't say labs are included in the testosterone price [2].

Have recent labs from your own doctor? Ask either program whether it'll accept them. At Maximus, that removes the lab fee.

Pharmacies and prescribers

Both name their pharmacies, which not every program does. Maximus routes compounded prescriptions to 503A pharmacies it lists as EVR, FCC or VIOS depending on your state, and brand-name drugs to The Pharmacy Hub. Its prescribers are board-certified US physicians in affiliated medical practices, run by Maximus Health [1].

PeterMD's terms name Absolute Pharmacy in Lutz, Florida and Partell Pharmacy in Las Vegas, Nevada, without saying whether they're 503A compounding pharmacies. Its terms don't name a registered company behind the service [2]. Ask PeterMD which pharmacy will fill your order and how it's licensed.

Refunds and canceling

Neither refunds medication once it's on its way, so the cancel rules are what you can control. At Maximus, you can switch off auto-renewal any time in your dashboard or by email. A month-to-month plan ends at the close of the month; a prepaid plan runs to term [1].

At PeterMD, auto-renewing products cancel by emailing support at least 48 hours before renewal. Damaged or defective items must be reported within 24 hours for a replacement [2]. Set a calendar reminder two days before each renewal.

Who each one fits

  • Pick Maximus if you want testosterone as a cream or oral capsule, want a set lab schedule, or already have recent labs to send in.
  • Pick PeterMD if you want injections with a 12-month price option, its own blood panels and a results-tracking app, or NAD+ and metformin from the same program.
  • Look elsewhere if you're in Alabama or Idaho (PeterMD), or want a different price structure. Other testosterone programs include HealthRx, TMates and MangoRx.

Both also sell sermorelin. For more hormone programs by goal, see the hormones shortlist, or take the 30-second match.
